Okay, I bought Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise and Magic's Price - the Last heral Mage trilogy - several years ago. Before I get into this I'd like to state that I really, really love these books. The treatment of Vanyel by his father and Jarvis at the very beginning. It's a strong narrative and a compelling story, and if you've read Magic's Pawn, the first novel in the trilogy, I'm going to suggest you try to ignore how angsty and whiny it is and try this one out because it's far better. I'd love to see more fantasy books with races of people where gender sexuality was not so much of an issue. Many Heralds and Herald-Mages have died fighting to preserve the peace.
